We’re not sure why, but Daniel Day-Lewis is retiring from acting…. again. He took a sabbatical many years ago after an onstage breakdown where he reportedly saw the ghost of his father whilst performing in Hamlet:
Tim Roth revealed that he lucked out with his role in “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead” after that incident as DD-L was the first choice for that role.
“I really do owe Danny, or especially the ghost of his father, quite a lot.”
-Tim Roth
We don’t know much else about Daniel Day-Lewis’ choices here, but this is what his spokesperson had to say:
“Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor. He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject.”
